I've always had Cockers, Afghan hounds, Rottweilers, and several wolfdogs, so the switch to a yorkie was very different for me. My friends and family can't believe I bought such a tiny dog...
The reason I started wanting a yorkie is because I used to rehab orphaned baby squirrels. We have raised 11 baby squirrels, and released them back into the wild when they got about nine months old. Our last squirrel baby had been injured too badly to be released, so we had to keep her. Living with a two pound squirrel made me start wanting a small dog, and a yorkie came closest to what I wanted. I have always loved long haired dogs too, so a Yorkie was perfect for me. I got scared off for a year after spending a few months reading YT last summer, and hearing about so many dogs with serious health problems. But I couldn't get a yorkie out of my mind, so after a year I finally took the plunge and bought one. Now I understand why everyone on this forum is so crazy about their dogs. The breed is really special and I'm so glad I finally got my little Yorkie.
