It's not stupid.
Do you mean an electric razor that has a straight head? Or a mustache trimmer? A mustache trimmer will work...the straight head razor I would check to make sure it actually cuts the hair...rather than pulls it out.
Or a razor that has three swivel round type heads? These will not work. It pulls the hair out rather than cutting.
Before I had clippers...I used a new regular disposable razor...and gently ran it on the backside.
