My daughterwas a lot like that! She would sleep great during the day but the minute you either put her down or got up from laying near her she would wake up screaming and the vicious cycle continued! It was torture. So one day I just sucked it up and put her in her crib and let her scream! It took a few days and major strength on my part to not go and get her but then there was never a problem again! Its like anything else know matter how young they are they become very familiar w/what they want very quickly!
Also, does your son use a pacifier? That might help sooth him if he doesn't already!
