I didn't put Dawn in the water. I just put little white plates/bowls all around the house with water in them next to baseboards--mine got fleas in them, but I didn't know about the night light deal or the Dawn. How I found out about it is my step-mom keeps bowls of water all around her house for her cats (5!!), and when she has fleas she knows it because they're in her bowls of water. My guess is, that's all you need....plain old water. The Dawn, I'm betting, is just to kill the flea when it jumps in, but the ones in my bowls were dead too--apparently they can't swim!!
