Lorna is correct it is very hard to get the scent off the rug. I would get a professional cleaner to clean your carpet inside out. I know one couple who invested into a steam cleaner and used it as soon as their dog had an accident.
Fortunately for me we prepared ahead of time and changed our living room to hardwood floors before bringing the little guy home. This made cleaning and the potty training go easier. It's been two months since we had him. He is 6 months old now and hasn't had an accident in 4 weeks.
