Default Cutting Pixie's 'Curtains'...

Pixie has a very long coat and i'm thinking of cutting her hair a bit shorter so it's easier to manage especially with all the wet weather we seem to have here in the uk! I don't want it too short though..She has long hair on her body that parts down the middle of her back and falls into 'curtains' either side..I have no idea how to go about cutting it without risking making a complete hash of it!
I think i'm ok with cutting her facial hair now..thanks to Marcerella02's great grooming video's on here I basically don't really want to use clippers on her but scissor cut her all over and maybe layering the hair on her body a bit..I am thinking about taking her to a groomer because i'm so worried about ruining it myself! but after my last experience with a groomer i'm naturally very cautious! Anyone have any good yorkie grooming video's they could post that would maybe help me out?
