I love Brother machines, I have a fairly expensive one but it has never had to be fixed and I've had it since 1994. I wouldn't buy one from Walmart or Target though because those ones usually have plastic gears and can't be fixed. I would find a place that just sells sewing machines and get a good all around machine with metal gears, it will last you years longer and can be fixed or adjusted, if needed!
