I can't sew to save my life. My boyfriend made the stand, I am a short girl and wanted to be face to face with my sweet birdie when I woke him up to say good morning! | What if you made some basic panels out of a nice fabric? Maybe you could find a short tension rode for each side. I was thinking about doing that for Fern's cage.
