Just now getting around to reading this thread and saw that your question went unanswered. In my opinion, if you're not planning to breed and only want a companion, the papers are really a moot point. Yes, I sent Tatum's papers in right away (as did we with our toy poodle previously) but her registration sits in a file not really meaning a thing. We never planned to breed her. I hope that answers your question.
