Hi and welcome to YT!!! I'd definately recommend pet insurance, go with a big well known company. I know some people put money aside every month but what happens if you have 2 big unexpected vets bills one after the other? I personally wouldn't take the risk. As for doggy bits, get yourself a big box and just pick one thing up each time you go shopping, by the time your'e ready for your new pup it will be overflowing with lovely things.
Ring around local vets and make a list of initial costs;shots/neutering/worm and flea meds. And most importantly find yourself a good responsible breeder!!! Then you can find out how much they sell their pups for Once you have that figure plus initial vet costs and a years insurance cover add an extra 25% just incase. I know this sounds like alot but if you have almost a year to save it;ll mount up in notime. Plus when it comes to Xmas/your B-day ask friends and family for cash towards your puppy fund
