I think if you schedule the surgery for early in the morning you should be able to pick her up in the afternoon. I wouldn't leave mine at the vet's with no one there. Too risky in my opinion and what is the purpose? It could be that they plan to do their sugeries in the afternnon and in that case I would find a vet that does them in the morning when they are fresher.

I understand your concerns to about the dog "keeping all its parts". I have decided that, absent some other problems developing, I will not spay my female yorkies. I will not breed them but my males are neutered and there is no chance of pregnancy so I just feel they are too small to subject to major surgery for no reason.

It is a personal decision and not an easy one.
