The first thing that comes to my mind when you say the smell is bad is PARVO...We lost a dog to parvo and the smell was very bad and very distinctive. He needs a vet. You don't want to wait. If it is parvo....it is not the parvo that actually kills them it is the secondary infection in the bowel. It is a very quick to take them down. They show signs and then they are BAD sick and on the verge of death. It is very hard to save them once they are to that point.
