Being a first time home owner myself, I would suggest to find a real estate agent since you don't have to pay them (the seller will). Also, check out all these wonderful tax deduction for first time home owner too.........
For me...I bought a brand new house (bought it from a builder)...so, I didn't have to pay any real estate agent fee. If you buy a used house, you might want to hire someone to check out the house and make sure they are in good condition.....
