Hello,
We only use the pee pads when it is raining. We leave the door open partially to the backyard and have the pee pad at the edge. He usually sees that it's raining and then pees on the pad. I believe they are scented with a smell to encourage them to pee. You will have to supervise the pad since they like to chew and play with them.
