 1 or 2 yorkies
I just went through the 1 vs 2 dilema. There is a totally different dynamic with 2 vs 1. They will still crave and compete for your attention, but they can also entertain each other as the other posters' mention. I am so glad that we decided to get another friend for our 2 y.o. after our oldest passed away. We waited too long the first time. I think that if they are not from the same litter (and I understand that this is not the case for you, and the dame and sire are different), its best to get them close to the same age.
I have not heard of this medical issue, and my thoughts are with you and your fur baby. I think its only when you have 2, that their full potential for play comes through. I had no idea they were so fast and maneuverable, until they started to whip around the house at top speed! Its a lot of fun to watch.
