Angry The Latest

So the latest news is that the horrible excuse of a woman - Teresita Hughes is still fighting for the dogs. She had her arraignment in court on Aug. 18th - didn't even appear but sent a letter via her lawyer to make her "not guilty" claim against the 46 counts of animal abuse.

So....on we go. Guess the next court date is Sept. 15th or so. This should be a pre-trial motion I think where both parties will try to lay out the evidence each side has on the other. The result, no matter what anyone does, both state and federal rules written for animal rights and protection are WEAK. Weak is a gross understatement. I know there are so-called good breeders out there, no doubt..but breeders have their own lobby group and therefore this existing legislation was written in their favor - in the favor of the almighty dollar, not the dog.

In fact I believe it is proposed in FL that kennels such as Teresita's - currently are inspected bi-annually (twice a year.) From what I hear there is some pending legislation out there to change it to only once a year. This certainly won't help much of anything.

Mills are so prevelant now. They just broke one yesterday in WV. Until someone is made an example of - I feel like none of this matters. Animals are viewed as property, but they are dependent upon us humans - why can we not just do the right thing by them - even if we see them as merely "property" (which certainly I DO NOT.)

PA in fact seems to be the state with the most mill issues from what I have read. They are working to severely tighten restrictions since a reason individual with 80 dogs who required medical attention just decided to go out of the breeder/kennel business and executed the dogs vs. adopting them out and surrendering to a rescue league. Great human beings we are walkin around amongst everday, aren't they????
