I didn't. He did. He wasn't even sure he wanted a dog. I found one that I wanted to go look at, and he asked me if I had my heart set on it when I put the pet carrier in the car. I said no, there have been lots of times when I've gone to look at pets and come back with an empty pet carrier. I put it in the car just in case.
I checked out the puppy then asked him if he wanted to hold her, then went to talk to the breeder about terms, and asked if he wanted to hold her in the meantime. I came back to him and he was nuzzling her and saying, "Look how much she loves me. Do you want this one?"
She's still a Daddy's girl. She bonded with him right from the get-go.
I think it's really important to find pets, whatever pets, that you bond with right off. If you're picking for a pet, and not for breeding or show, you don't necessarily look for the best looking one. You look for the one that comes to you and says, "YOU'RE MINE! Can we go home now?" It's just as important for them to choose you as it is for you to choose them. They usually have better instincts than you do. |
