Reminds me .. I was about 21 years old (20+ years ago!) and interviewing for a job at a bank. They gave me a mechanical pencil to fill something out, and they were about to give me some instructions and since I was nervous I sat there clicking the pencil repeatedly like it was a pen. Well, by the time I quit clicking & looked at the pencil the lead had come out about 3 inches long. Rather than just keep quiet and discretely break it off so I could write I laughed and said "look what I just did..."... the interviewer reached up & broke the lead off for me.
No, I didn't get that job.
