Plastic is not the best choice for food and water bowls.
Stainless steel or ceramic would be much better.
Plastic holds bacteria and water sitting in a plastic bowl during the
day is not good.
Can you just change them for the above? I think you would be happier.
Plus the stainless and ceramic don't stain.
