I would consider changing his diet for a different food, although wellness is good food it may not be the food for him... stay AWAY from treats for now and if you must, cook plain chicken breast, in water, well cooked, chop into "pea size" pieces and save it on zip lock bags on the fridge. These are the best treats i found.
My problem with wellness is the lack of a specific food for tiny breeds... more commercial kinds like science diet, royal canin, eukanuba, Pro-plan, realized a long time ago that the needs of the tiny toy breeds are very specific and that they have sensitive stomachs ...
Please think of it with care and take your time to research on that area. Your baby may have a sensitive stomach and you may be feeding a food that is too rich for him, so the rice calms him ....
Also check the royal canin site for explanation on the dry food "only" benefits.
I am a big advocate of the the dry food only diet. My yorkies love it and are very healthy, only time we have stomach upsets is with the females when close to labor ..
Good luck.
