Surgery is extremely painful and I just don't go for the, "If they are in pain they won't jump and hurt themselves" thing. What is the vets excuse for not using an NSAID?

When Ellie had oral surgery (9 adult teeth pulled) it was before we knew she had a liver issue and she was on an NSAID for that (Metacam).

I don't know what it is, they just said it's like motrin, and non-narcotic. I'm tempted to call them and ask for something that actually works.
