They both wear collars here too for ID purposes only. I do not walk them attached to their collars because for the trach issues. When they do go on the leash Pebbles has a Gentle Leader head collar because she is a puller and Doodlebug has a harness. I still leave on their collars so they have an ID just in case.
Mine are in and out so much during the day it is just easier to keep them on at all times. I do take them off at night and they get groomed and loved before bed otherwise they will mat around their necks.
