We kept Joey in a small carrier next to our bed. It had a zipper top, and I would just put my hand in it and pet him, and that was enough to calm him. A couple of times I feel asleep with my hand in the top though. Eventually, he was old enough to sleep in our bed, but you must be sure she's potty trained by then. I wouldn't let her run around the living room at night for any reason, she could hurt herself.
