Therapy Yorkie My little Gidget was a therapy dog and little did I know she would be put to the test. My husband had end-stage dementia and Gidget was his at-home hospital bed companion for 18 months. Right before he passed, she snuggled up next to his feet and refused to move.
Within months she grieved herself to death. Although blind and deaf, she was pretty healthy for a dog that was almost 15. One day her little heart just gave out and that's the day my life again became unbearably sad.
Gidget was a birthday present that my precious husband had purchased for me and ironically and sadly I lost both of them in the same year. When she passed she was only 2 lbs and had lost almost a full pound.
I now have a puppy Abby that is nothing like Gidget (which is a good thing).
