Smile I do, I do!

This is how I got Doodlebug to lay down.

For sit I use my left hand and hold a Cheerio above him eye level and when he looked up I moved it back and he sat and then give paw.

For down I held a cheerio in my right hand just like sit, when he sat I put my hand PALM SIT UP with the cheerio and slowly moved it on the floor and said down. They will naturally go forward. If Trixie tries to walk go back to sit, good girl, down. It might take a few times but it will work.

Give lots and lots of praise and lots and lots of treats. As crazy as it sounds they LOVE Cheerios! Their small and crunchy and yummy. I wouldn't work on anything longer than about 5 minutes at a time since the attention span is not very long.

Once you can get the down you can do roll over. Doodlebug is a roll over machine. Even Pebbles who is a little older started doing the tricks~mostly because she was jealous that Doodlebug was getting all the treats. It only took 1 time and she was rolling over for that cheerio.

Eventually, they will just do it with hand signals. That is really awesome and people will get a big kick out of it! These 2 are doing so many tricks now my husband laughs and tells me I should have been a dog trainer.

There is a book I bought called "The only dog trick book you'll ever need" it was only $3 on amazon and really helped a lot.

I really LOVE the name Trixie and you are correct Trixie needs to do lots and lots of good tricks.
