I do not use collars, even those with the "quick release - kitty clips". I make harnesses and collars and have the quick release buckles in stock. Because of the trachea/safety issue, I contacted the manufacturer of the buckles about the amount of pressure required to make the buckles fail (release) and was told that it takes approximately 4 lbs. of pressure. I put a collar together and did my own little test and although I have no way to measure the amount of pressure exerted to make the buckles release, it seems like it took quite a bit of force. I don't think that a small yorkie could possibly exert that much pressure without damaging their delicate trachea.
I would like to add that each of us has our yorkie's safety and best interests in mind with our particular set of circumstances. Each of us must decide, using the information available what is the best way to keep our furkids safe. |
