Okay, I have absolutely
no sympathy for people who abuse animals. People caught running puppymills and the like should be sentenced harshly -- it would be great to put them into the very conditions they imposed on the poor animals, but that'll never happen (darned 'treatment of prisoners' rules!!!).
There are so many atrocities committed against animals -- we need a justice system that takes animal cases seriously. The problem is that, most often, animals are seen as possessions, objects, rather than living beings with emotional needs as well as physical needs. Until that view changes, not much will be done.
It just makes me sick. Heaven help the person I'm ever on a jury to convict for animal cruelty!!!
