I would go with the sony. I think you would be happier with the way it functions.

I had both a Dell and a Gateway. I didnt like either of them. Eventually, my uncle got me this 'bare bones' laptop (no parts in it) and I got to pick out the parts he put in it. Ive had it for four years and never had a problem with it.
