The non-shedding breeds are sooo much easier, plus they don't get that strong "dog smell" the shedding ones with undercoats get. We had a lab for years and years until he died of old age, and every time he was brushed we'd get enough hair to have made a whole extra dog. We have Persian cats as well as Yorkies, and the cats definitely shed enough to make up for the fact that the dogs don't.
