What would you do?
The question I have for you is: What do you WANT to do? do you want the dog back? Do you want to be reimbursed for what you paid for him?
I agree with Archie...contact the people that have him and explain the situation. Check out their home and their relationship with this dog. If the dog is happy, healthy and loved I'd leave well enough alone. I might ask them if they wanted his paperwork and ask them if they would help toward the purchase of another dog for you but I'm not sure about that.

It is a tough situation and I'm sorry this happened to you. It bites because someone is going to loose out on a good pet whether it be you or the people that have him now.
