The chances are very good that you puppy came from a puppy mill. This does not mean you dog isn't just as good as the dog that comes from the fanciest show breeder. People recommend the AKC not because the offspring are better, but because the breeders, and the conditions in which the dogs are raised are better. If you ever get another dog, I recommend buying it from the best breeder you can find. We should only support those breeders who are treating their dogs properly. However, we should love our pet no matter what their "pedigree" is.

As far as size, many purebred Yorkies are bigger than the standard of 7 pounds and below. That's just the size the breed for, but some turn out bigger.
