Proceeding like it is pancreatitis is probably okay but the protocol the vet is using is questionable. Food in patients with pancreatitis is usually pulled and they are put on IVs. If he is still vomiting something probably needs to be done. It could just be something like gastroenteritis but if the vet has any suspicion that it is the pancreatitis, it has to be brought under control.
