Hi, welcome! What a great name, Humphrey!! I understand how annoying it must be to now have this puppy constantly attached to you, but try to see it from his point of view. 8 weeks old is awfully early to be away from his mom and littermates. 12 weeks is the best. So at 8 weeks he really is just a tiny baby just needing the touch and comfort of his pack, which is you now. They make backpack types of carriers that you wear on the front that you can put him in. That way you can have your hands free but he'll still be close to you. He needs lots of encouragement right now to feel secure and to grow up into a confident dog. They grow up soooo fast, sacrifice the time right now to help him along and you will reap years of enjoyment from the bond you will be creating.
Also there are stuff toys that can simulate the mothers heartbeat that he can use to snuggle with when sleeping. Or at the very least get a big stuff toy for him to snuggle with. He must really be missing the comfort of sleeping with his littermates.
Puppies, like babies, crave the physical contact and need to feel secure. Without that security base they won't be as likely to venture out and explore their world. They have to be able to explore in a confident secure manner to grow into good canine citizens. Good luck and keep coming back here to post for help. There are a lot of great, knowledgeable people on this board just waiting to help. |
