Joey's breeder recommended free feeding till the age of 8 months. Tiny dogs can use up their calorie reserves rather quickly so food should be available 24/7. Many people give Nutri-Cal, which is mainly sugar, but this can decrease the appetite for more nutritious food, and a better option, I believe, is to have food available at all times. The amount on the bag is usually the daily amount. Nutri-Cal does have it's place, but only if the dog is experiencing hypoglycemic systems and shouldn't be given as a "preventive."
