Sad Argh!

Oh, I feel your pain, everyone. I truly, truly do.

I love my little girl with all my heart. I've wanted a Yorkie forever, so now that I finally have one, she's my little darling. But her "accidents" are driving me crazy! I just don't know what to do.

When I brought her home in December, she was 8 weeks old and had already been doing her business on pee pads. She had no trouble adjusting to my house, using the pee pads pretty much 98% of the time -- she occasionally missed the pee pad, but because she was positioned weirdly with front feet on the pad, but hind end over. Thank goodness for "Get the Odor Out" enzyme stuff; it's fantastic.

When she was spayed, she had a few accidents during her recovery. That's absolutely understandable. I felt so sorry for the poor little girl and never once minded cleaning up; she was sick from the anaesthetic, so she had several big accidents, poor little soul. (Again, "Get the Odor Out" does wonders!) In a couple days, she was back to using the pads again.

Then I steam cleaned the house. It was almost as if that triggered some need to "mark" the entire house. It's like she has completely forgotten that the pee pads exist. She'll be playing with me then suddenly stop, look me in the eye and squat -- or, worse, go running up the stairs to deposit a "present" at the top.

I don't get it. I grab her, move her to the pee pad -- at which point she acts all traumatized and won't go. I take her to the pee pads several times a day, but am rarely rewarded. When she slips up and actually uses the pee pad, I make a huge fuss over her and give her a treat. Still, she'll go squat somewhere else a matter of hours later. This is the dog who used to hold it for hours at the dog park then race to the pee pad when we got home!

I wondered if the steam cleaning "messed up her chi" or something! I've also been taking her for regular walks; maybe she's confused because she can pee anywhere she likes in the grass? Any thoughts?
