Coat kings are a type of rake that is normally used on dogs that require handstripping (westies, spaniels, etc) it rakes out undercoat and cuts hair at the same time...not something I would use to demat.
With knots and matts there are three options that a groomer will give you:
1. The will demat (very carefully!!)...but the more matts expect a much higher cost (we charge $60/hour on top of the price of a groom to demat)
2. if it is too severe they will shave it out or take thinning shears and thin it out and start with a fresh coat/hair...the more you demat hair the more brittle it becomes and it more subseptible to matting again.
3. let you brush it out at home...(but this is usually not an options because it was alrady tried.
I would get your pup on a regular schedule of minimum every 6 weeks.
