I have a several different methods, I read that if you hear something like a trash can banging and they bark, you are suppose to "thank" them and look around maybe check the door, and say "it's all right." This lets the dog know he's done his job by alerting you to any danger. Now, I don't have to actually check anything, I just say, "It's alright" and he stops barking. The other method I use is when he barks at someone he sees walking in the park, since he can see this through the window. I just would shake a can of pennies and say "No Bark" to this. He's pretty good at minding, but if he sees another dog in the park, he'll just run, and ring his bell, at which time I open the door, and he flies to the gate, and barks his head off at the dog. This gives him much needed exercise.
