We haven't had any issues regarding marking in the house..mind you ,he is in his Kennel when we go out and we can't take him with us . When we are around the house he's with us..when we are outside we have to tie him now..as he's gotten under the horses feet and he had a run in with our Billy goat. He thinks he's "all that"..and much more..he lives with big dogs..so he thinks he's a big dog, he's not afraid of much. Our cats are bigger than Stanley. He's not "yappy"..the only time you will hear him is when you come home and he hasn't seen you for awhile. He will bark if someone comes to your door..however he does that here because his "big buddies" do it.

It sounds like he's crate trained and that's a plus in my book. Do you know why they are willing to give him up? It seems they have several other dogs.
