My mom has been battling this for the past 7 yr's and it affects her in many different ways. She was diagnosed by her eye dr. she also has it in her lungs and other parts of her body. I also have an ex SIL that has it along with other family members of her's. It can take a toll on the persons body. It is also related to the Lupus family in the way of symptoms.
It can be handled with Prednisone but that can also lead to becoming a diabetic (as it did with my mom) she is now on insulin, along with the prednisone it causes her to have very high blood sugar sometimes not even registering on her meter. I am sad that it take the death of a star to get people to stand up and take notice of something that has been around for a very long time, on the other hand i hope something will come from Bernie's death and they look for a cure or better ways for people to manage this disease |
Dear Abbey,
I am so sorry that your Mother and loved ones too have been afflicted with this ugly disease and the many others that are.
You are absolutely correct that Sarcoidosis is more common than people realize.
I was glad to see your post on this.
Jack has Parkinsons, there really hasn't been much progress in treating it either. We are constantly hearing from his Dr.s how they wish there was a magic pill. I truely pray that one day this will come about for all those suffering from debilitating diseases that a means to find a cure or better help will be found. My prayers go out to Bernie Mac's family, I truely believe it being made known of his having Sarcoidosis, that many more people will be made aware of this devastating disease.
So sad at the loss of someone such as Bernie Mac, so many would have to learn of this disease in this sad way.
Hopefully, especially within the medical profession more much needed research will be done on this disease.
Our prayers to Bernie Mac's family, loved ones and friends.
