Well, I will say that it isn't made to be 'vulgar' like some writers. She is excellent in her writing style and her wording.
I also am a Jamie fan. And a Claire fan for that matter. I was so happy that Jamie got to meet Bree.
To me, Jamie is a very honorable man that has suffered so much and quite the warrior, eh? I quite agree with you that it would be difficult to cast him. They would probably want a 'pretty boy' for the part and he is definitley not a pretty boy in my mind. Strong. Purposeful. Masculine, but never a pretty boy.
