I have been reading some books by Diana Gabaldon. She is an excellent writer who is able to make you feel like 'you are there'. It is total fiction (about time travelers...  ) but I have enjoyed them. Sometimes she gets a bit 'steamy' if you knwo what I mean, but on the whole...excellent! The first one of the series is The Outlanders.
I always hate it when the 'story' ends. I want to know 'what else' happened.

I love all the
Outlander books and think they would make a good move, except that I know my Jamie could never be properly portrayed. I just love him!! As for the steamy parts - I like them just the way they are.
