I had my girl's spayed at 3 lbs and I was like you, a nervous wreck!!! I waited until mine were 1 1/2 years and 3 years because friends of mine had lost their dogs to the anesthesia. I made sure that I picked a vet that had done many tiny dogs, in my case, she had spayed rats before! Then I made sure that they used Isoflorane gas, which is also used in the neonatal units on babies, so it is one of the safest. Then I also made sure that a vet or a vet tech was monitoring the anesthesia during the operation so that the vet could just focus on the spay. They both came through with flying colors but I was a basket case!! I am afraid to say that there is no test that they can take to be sure that your pup is not going to have an allergic reaction to the medication and that is what is so scary!! I wish you nothing but the best, what ever decision you make!! |
