Yes...another size question! But I'm concerned with this comment! Rowdy and I went to PetSmart last night for a meet and greet with the trainer. I was questioning whether or not I wanted to do the PetSmart thing, but the trainer is SUPER professional and very experienced. All the dogs that are signed up in our class right now are small..the biggest is a 11 week Cocker. This made me feel a little better about doing it! I was really nervous about the possiblity of a pittbull (or other BIG dog) being in his class, but she said she tries to match the size of the dog to the class as much as she can.
OK now what bothered me a little bit....
She knew that the size factor was a huge concern for me, and she said "He's not any smaller than some of the other dogs" Which I knew...there's a chi and a maltese in the class also. What bothered me was she said he's going to be a big boy. Now I'm not against bigger yorkies at all, but we travel a lot with our guys and Champ is the perfect size for us at 5.5 lbs. She says she think Rowdy will be about 10lbs! He's 2 lbs 7 oz at 12 weeks. Is that big? Another guy that works there said he thought he was kinda of big for 12 weeks also. I know he's not tiny, but I didn't think he was big.
She also told me that you are supposed to double the weight at 6 MONTHS for an idea of adult weight! From what everyone says on here it's double at 12 weeks (and some say add 1lb). That would make him about 6lbs! Is the 6mth thing for larger breeds or something??
As always, sorry for the longwindedness (is that a word??) |
