They'll get confused otherwise if you have multiple dogs. All mine know their names, but every time I pick them up, I scratch them behind the ear or rub their belly and say things like, "Pretty Tali. Tali is such a good girl." I just reinforce the names when it's a me and them thing. I honestly don't know if they recognize that's "their name," but they do begin to associate the words with themselves, so if you keep reinforcing it, it will catch their attention when they hear the word.
