This is an interesting thought. The reason I believe most people don't like the term "tea-cup" is because it is usually used to deceive people who don't know very much about the yorkshire terrier into paying more. In general, I would think it fair to say that most people don't favor terms that tend to be used in deceitful ways.
I have never seen the term "tea-pot" used to deceive anyone, so I don't have a problem with it. To me it's like this: teacup=marketing term designed to capitalize on buyer ignorance in order to make more money That's why people have a problem with it. I'm not real sure why the term teapot was created, but it wasn't created to take advantage of others, and that's the difference if you ask me.
