When we set up our business in the State of Florida we had to file for a fictitious name also. We had to do a name search to make sure the name we chose was not already in use by another company. Only if you use your last name in the title of your business do you not need to file for a fictitious name. We later incorporated our business. It is not anything to be concerned about - it is only part of setting up a business in the State.
