Tech visits are sometimes done in the back without the owner but you should have the choice to pay for the visit and see a doctor in a room. While vaccine visits with techs are done in the back without you, I would not be happy that they won't let you back there. That is probably the about the same area where sick pets are kept and you should be able to visit if your pup is ever hospitalized. If they won't let you back there now, then they might not when it is important.

It doesn't sound like you are comfortable and it doesn't sound like they are professional. I think I would go to a different vet.

All dogs get the same dose of vaccine for the most part.
Her last visit for her shots, the vet gave her a smaller dose because of her size, she put her on the scale before she did the vaccine and then said she was going to give her a little less.
I have actually been in their back area before, a long while back with one of my other dogs, they needed to do something with him (can't remember what) but they actually told us we could go back with them. They don't even keep animals in that area, it's just set up for the surgeries and everything. They keep the sick animals in another area with cages.
Personally I think she was full of it when she told me I couldn't go back because the guy that was taking Lucie seemed caught off guard when she said no.
I'm going to be calling either later this afternoon, or tomorrow to speak with the owner to complain though.
