Omg Night vision?

I know cats are the animals who see very well in the dark but, I thought dogs had pretty good night vision, too. Meeko can't see at night at all. lol The other night I went downstairs and didn't turn on the light and Meeko refused to follow. I kept calling and calling and he just looked at me through the railing like I was crazy. I tried bribbing him with treats, seeing if he wanted to go outside, waved his toy around, and even offered a walk to my Grandma's (which he LOVES! - she lives rite next door and he makes a mad dash to her house as soon as our door opens-. Anyway, he still woulnd't come down. So, I leaned over and hit the light switch and that little brat hurried rite down! lol

So then the next night my mom got home and I ran downstairs in a hurry and forgot about the light. But, this time he tried to brave it out and tumbled down the first flight of stairs. We have a little landing inbetween the 2 flights of stairs, so when I heard him tumble and stop and the landing I ran over to hit the switch before he started the 2nd set. He didn't learn his lesson tho, and tried to go down the 2nd set and tumbled hald way down and then jumped the last 5 stairs. I felt soooo horrible but, I really did forget. He was alrite, thank god. He's my little teapot at 11lbs so he's not as delicate but, still I almost had a heart attack when I heard him tumbling around. I learned my lesson tho, now I walk straight over to the light switch and then to the steps.

So, am I wrong? Don't dogs see ok at night. Their eyes reflect like cats do, so I thought they were the same.
