Kennel cough is supposed to last from a week to 21 days. Lily's lasted 2 months, but I think it hung around because I was a little too quick to treat with antibiotics rather than letting it run its course. Our aunt is a vet and she said a lot of times vets give antibiotics for KC because it makes the owners feel better--since it's a viral infection the antibiotics won't treat it, but they can help it from becoming pneumonia. What worked for me was a good cough suppressant (butorphanol) that let her throat heal up, and once her throat wasn't irritated anymore, she finally quit coughing.
