Vets in my area don't even like to say an owner is neglectful. We adopted a munchin cat at my shelter. The adopter brought it back abut 8 months later skinny, and couldn't walk. She had taken it to the vet (after she called and I told her she had to or bring it back) and it was constipated and hadn't gone in days and by the time she took the cat to the vet it was too late the vet said to put him down. So instead of paying the vet to do it she brought it back to the shelter for us to do it. I called the vet and asked if she would go to court and say it was neglect that resulted in the cat having to be euthanized, she said no. She didn't think it was neglect. If you don't have a vet to back you up in a case like that, you don't have a case. I was pissed! I really like that cat and I didn't want her to adopt it anyway. We are very picky now! I see a lot of neglect cases and it makes me not like people very much! Usually if you threaten to take people to court, they turn over the animal. They don't want it anyway!
